Beytek encountered a dual challenge that drove the decision to migrate its servers from on-premises data centers to the cloud. Firstly, the organization grappled with escalating operational costs and management complexities associated with maintaining on-premises infrastructure. The resource-intensive nature of the traditional data centers prompted Beytek to seek a more cost-effective and streamlined solution.
Secondly, recognizing the paramount importance of fortifying the security of their workloads, Beytek faced the imperative to enhance data protection measures. The growing threat landscape and the need for robust security protocols prompted a strategic shift to the cloud, where the inherent security features and advanced management capabilities offered a compelling solution to address these security requirements.
In response to the escalating costs and security concerns, Beytek embraced a solution that involved a re-architecture and migration to the AWS Cloud.
The process included re-designing their existing cloud workloads, using security best practices. Leveraging VPCs and AWS security services for secure and efficient resource hosting.
The migration involved using AWS Application Migration Service to accurately replicate the on-premises servers to managed EC2 instances. Moreover, the adoption of the managed RDS service for hosting their databases ensured a seamless and optimized data management system. To fortify the overall network security, a comprehensive VPN was designed and implemented for Beytek, creating a secure and private communication channel between their on-premises workstations and the AWS Cloud.
This strategic move to AWS, coupled with meticulous architectural adjustments, not only addressed the initial challenges but positioned Beytek for greater operational efficiency, scalability, and fortified security.
For cost optimization purposes, EC2 reserved instances were used for their long-term, continuously running workloads. Compute Optimizer was also used to right-size the deployed servers according to the actual resource utilization of the EC2 instance.
For continuous patching of their servers across their workloads, Systems Manager Patch Manager was used to automatically update and apply patches to the underlying software of the EC2 instances. CloudWatch and CloudTrail were used to monitor workloads’ performance metrics, keep track of logs, and survey API calls in their AWS accounts.
AWS Security Hub was also set up and used in order to evaluate and optimize the security of the workload’s infrastructure and applications.
